I post to this blog each Friday and I have one ready that I have been looking forward to publishing but I have decided to wait a week before I do. It is fun and lighthearted and silly but I don’t think it is appropriate to post just right now.
I live in British Columbia, Canada which is a beautiful part of the world by any measure. This summer has turned out to be the worst wildfire season in memory with now over four hundred wildfires in the province. This past week has seen several fires double in size overnight threatening entire communities and forcing evacuations. We have friends who live in Keremeos, a small village 300k inland from Vancouver. That community has a huge fire bearing down on it. We lived in the Central Okanagan for many decades and overnight fires have destroyed many homes and forced the evacuation of thousands of residents. Similar events are threatening small towns across the province and we are being told worse is yet to come. 2023 will go down in our history as the worst fire season on record. It is catastrophic and for those caught in the middle of it, terrifying. Our thoughts are with our family, our friends and all those being affected.
So with all that being said I think it would be insensitive and disrespectful of me to publish to my blog this week, tone deaf at the very least. I will save it of course and post hopefully next Friday. By then I’m hoping something a wee bit lighthearted and trivial will be welcome.
