Reclaim Your Country

Donald Trump likes to tell us that he is unpredictable. He says his unpredictability is a strength, that no one knows what he might do next. That his unpredictability gives him a strategic advantage. Sure. He's about as unpredictable as a teenage boy on a Saturday night date.

Donald Trump likes to tell us that he is unpredictable. He says his unpredictability is a strength, that no one knows what he might do next. That his unpredictability gives him a strategic advantage.

Sure.

He’s about as unpredictable as a teenage boy on a Saturday night date.

He’s about as unpredictable as the price of gas going up.

He’s as unpredictable as an infant wailing.

He’s as unpredictable as a bulldog snoring.

Fact is, Trump is not unpredictable. That America is weaker now than it was before he was elected. That was unpredictable. That America has embraced tyrannical dictatorships in China and Russia while turning on its closest and most loyal allies, now that was unpredictable. That America has broken most of the structural girders that have kept the world safe since WW2, now that was unpredictable. That Canada is ‘nasty’ and that Columbia’s junta is ‘trustworthy’, I mean who could have seen that coming? That a deal is a deal until Donald Trump say it isn’t, that America’s word can’t be trusted any longer, at all. Now that was unpredictable. Trump it turns out is a breaker of things, not a builder. He is a small man, in a big place, playing a role he cannot fulfill. He is incapable of meeting the demands of his office.

Trump is no more unpredictable than he is tough, as he would also have you believe.

If you want a tough president, and I suspect you do, then elect one. It’s not him. He’s just a bully, always has been, always will be and as with all bullies, he’s all show – all bark, no bite. He has the spine of a jellyfish, and that’s not news – this blustering blowhard, this man who did what fortunate sons have always been able to do – escape military service, this spineless creature is so thoroughly predictable that the world now openly mocks him and with him, your United States of America.

So do something about it. Cast him from office.

Of course, you won’t. Or if you do it will be by some half measure, neither in nor out. He is dangerous because he has you figured out. He knows that he is giving just enough of what you want. Enough for you to say “so, he’s not perfect but no one is and you know I like his unpredictability.”

You’ve all fallen for it. He’s not, he never has been unpredictable. What he is, what he really is – is what makes him so dangerous. He is a leader, a leader with a feral understanding of America, a country persuaded of its own exceptionalism, simply by force of repetition, each generation in turn chanting ‘USA USA USA’ as though it was proof of your superiority. Trump knows you better than you know yourselves. He knows your fears and your triggers. He knows that ‘socialism’ and ‘communism’ aren’t political ideologies, they are words that scare you and when it is time to scare you once again, he trots them out. Just like he is, right now.

Don’t believe me? Talk to you after the midterms.

Listen I get it. Name calling and hateful messages to follow. Fill your boots, or do something about it. Rip this power that has been taken from you, taken from Congress, taken from the Senate, taken from your Supreme Court and vested in one man, sitting behind one desk.

Take it back. Reclaim your United States of America.

  1. Well stated Tony Peyton. I like that your voice and comments are to American people rather than to the deaf ears of the current leader and his followers. I know a lot of Americans who are so concerned and are doing a lot of work in their various communities to bring awareness and warnings to others of an even worse outcome if the midterms go badly, due to apathy or a lack of votes due to more complicated voting structures for them.

    1. May the force be with them. Bless them all but they are in a political pickle of biblical proportions. Forgive the reference. Somehow it works 😊

  2. Well said again Tony, but I’m not sure if there are enough reasonable voters capable to overcome the vast emptiness of the MAGA and just plain uneducated yahoos.

    1. It’s extraordinary isn’t it. On this Maritimes trip I’m meeting all kinds of Americans. One of them a physician from Nashville and his wife. Told me with absolute conviction that Trump was THE GREATEST PRESIDENTS EVER! And that the next great president will be Sarah Huckabee, the evangelical governor of Arkansas. God save them from themselves. Now look what you’ve done. I was chilling with a glass of of wine … 😂
